On October 30, the representatives of teachers and students of Wuxi Fisheries College visited Mr. Jiang Weigen, a veteran of the Korean War and a retired cadre of FFRC (Wuxi Fisheries College), and listened to the 91-year-old veteran's touching stories about hard work and bravery, as well as the glorious deeds of the revolutionary ancestors.

The teachers and students were impressed by the patriotic spirit of the volunteer soldiers who defend their homes and the country, and were moved by their unyielding and hard-working revolutionary sentiments under the extremely difficult conditions at the time. As Mr. Jiang said, "Now the life is better, but the good traditions of the past must not be discarded. The younger generations must be educated to practice economy and cherish the hard-won good life."

Hard work, diligence and thrifty are not only traditional virtues, but also an inspiring and indomitable spiritual force, which should be actively inherited and carried forward in any era.

Wuxi Fisheries College specifically optimizes the ideological and political courses, and integrated diligence and thrift into the ideological and political theories teaching; secondly, the secretary of Discipline Inspection Commissiongave lectures to students. On November 3, Wan Yibing, secretary of the Disciplinary Inspection Commission of the College, gave an ideological and political lecture to nearly 100 teachers and students of the college based on the theme of "hard work, diligence and thrift". This lecture systematically expounding the meaning of "hard work, diligence and thrift"on the realistic background, international situation, historical inheritance, and mission responsibility, as well as the ideological realm and responsibility of teachers and students in agricultural universities.

Wuxi Fisheries College has enriched the form of ideological and political courses. Through the ideological and political teachers’ prescribed courses plus specially invited teachers’ special courses, the theory and practice are carried out at multiple levels and from multiple angles, which enhances the effectiveness of education and allows students of the college to deeply understand the spirit of hard work and strive to be advocates, demonstrators, participants and inheritors of diligence and thrift.

“Expand publicityinside and outside the campus, lead the social trend with our own actions”-to be a practitioner of the concept of diligence and thrift

In order to actively respond to the call and advocate the good habit of "refuse to be extravagance, resist waste, be proud of ‘clear your plate’, and be ashamed of ‘waste’”, students of Wuxi Fisheries College have been doing their best. On the one hand, the food-saving publicity activities were carried out among teachers and studentsin the campus. From November 2 to 10, the food-saving publicity activity of "You clear your plate, I pay" was held in the cafeteria. With the "zero" waste of plates after lunch, you can exchange a small gift for free, calling on everyone to eliminate waste and help develop the habit of clearing the plates; at the same time, Wuxi Fisheries College launched the "save a grain, a drop of water, a kilowatt-hour of electricity, a piece of paper" initiative, and organized a "saving common sense knowledge" promotion activity, vigorously promoting the behavior and habits of respecting labor and saving food. The series of activities received positive responses from teachers and students. During the period, more than 500 small gifts were exchanged. The awareness of proactive diligence and thrift was further enhanced, and food waste was significantly reduced, which consolidated the effectiveness of the activities.

On the other hand, Wuxi Fisheries College also organized students to go out of the campus to distribute brochures, and promote the knowledge of thrift on the spot of the college’s cooperative enterprises, so that more people can participate in diligence and thrift activities. Participating in social practice also further enhanced students’ awareness of thrift, and made the spirit of diligence and thrift into the consciousnessof action.

General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized that no matter what level our country has developed, no matter how far the people’s lives are improved, the idea of hard work, diligence and thrift should never be lost. Wuxi Fisheries College will take the series of activities as an opportunity to continuously enrich the learning and publicity forms, pay attention to behavior guidance in moral education, continue to enhance the awareness of “hard work, diligence and thrift” among teachers and students, and effectively create a good cultural atmosphere on campus where saving is an honor and waste is shameful.
