Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, the Seminar on Aquatic Animal Health Management and Quarantine for Countries along the "Maritime Silk Road” was held at the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center (FFRC) of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences from November 8 to 28, with 18 participants from 7 countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Indonesia, Tonga and Zambia. Through a dynamic integration of lectures, practices, lac works, on-site teaching, study tours and cultural experiences, the program successfully endowed the participants with a comprehensive understanding of China's fisheries and aquaculture in general and disseminated China's technologies and experiences in the health management and inspection of aquatic animals, which have been well received and highly appraised by the participants.

Leaders of different levels gave high attention to the seminar. Xu Pao, FFRC Director General, Zhao Wenwu, Director of Academic Exchange Department of China Society of Fisheries, Li Zhi, Deputy Chief of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, among others, have participated in the opening and closingof the seminar.

Renowned scholars and researchers were invited to give lectures for the seminars and specialized study tours organized for participants to visit famous farms, companies and institutions such as the Weilai Hatchery in Suzhou, Qingsong Fishery Professional Cooperative, Guangdong Tilapia Technology Innovation Center, Maoming Maonan Sangao Fishery Development Co., Ltd., Jincheng Frozen Food Company etc. where the participant got chances to exchange in-depth with the aquaculturists, researchers, managerial and technical personnel on such topics as healthy management of aquatic animals, quality and safety control, quarantine technology and management, etc. as well as experience personally the development and actual practice of China in this field. Allparticipantsagreed that through this seminar, they broadened their horizons, learned about China and China’s fisheries, will would benefit their future work. 

This seminar is not only a journey of professional study, but also a journey of humanistic experience. Apart from rich professional investigation, the participants also fully experienced China's local customs, traditional culture and time-honored civilization.
