On July 6, the “Seminar on Fishery Development and Management for the Silk Road Countries”, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by Freshwater Fisheries Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, was successfully started.

Zhao Yuhong, Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Division of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, said that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to all-field cooperation with countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt, actively participated in international and regional economic organizations, and played a constructive role. The Chinese government provides assistance to other countries through various forms such as project aid, provision of materials, technical exchanges, capacity building, and economic and trade cooperation, so as to realize the common prosperity of the Silk Road countries. She hoped that this seminar will continue to be a new beginning for China and the Silk Road countries to further develop technical, trade and investment cooperation in the field of fishery.

Director Xu Pao hoped that with the help of this seminar, all parties can have in-depth exchanges and mutual learning, and jointly discuss green fishery development strategies that take into account ecological benefits, economic benefits and social benefits, so as to actively respond to the “Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Life” advocated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The seminar lasted for 21 days, with a total of 28 participants from 5 countries including Kenya, Zambia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
