In recent years, in order to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the work of “agriculture, rural areas and farmers”, FFRC has carried out in-depth scientific and technological assistance in rural revitalization, combining aquatic research work with rural revitalization and green development.
Jiangsu has always been the main production area of river crabs in China, and its output accounts for about half of the country's total output. Gaochun District in Nanjing is the largest river crab aquaculture area in southern Jiangsu, with a total area of nearly 200,000 mu, and almost every household are engaged in river crab aquaculture, making an important contribution to the local farmers’ enrichment into a well-off society, and forming a typical Gaochun river crab aquaculture model. However, affected by factors such as the epidemic, the downturn in domestic and foreign consumer markets, and climate change, the benefits of river crab farming have fluctuated and declined.
As the national aquatic research team of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, after hearing the needs of farmers in Gaochun, the research branch of FFRC jointly started a tough battle to improve the quality of rural revitalization.
Just after the Spring Festival holiday, on February 16, Director Xu Pao and Deputy Director Xu Gangchun led the 4th scientific research branches of FFRC to Gaochun to conduct a thorough investigation on river crab aquaculture. The experts listened in detail to the practical problems and difficulties reported by the Huashan Village Committee and the river crab aquaculture farmers. In response to the outstanding problems of the crab aquaculture in Huashan Village, the expert group formed different new technology models for ecological farming of shrimp and crabs.
On February 25, the joint research team of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th scientific research branches of FFRC went to the Huashan Village Committee again, and gave lectures with farmers on the demonstration sites and implementation plans of shrimp and crab aquaculture, and answered the technical points and difficulties of crab-freshwater shrimp, crab-crayfish and crab- Macrobrachium rosenbergii aquaculture, laying an important foundation for the development of demonstration sites. The demonstration work of the high-efficient river crab aquaculture technology in Gaochun has been highly concerned and affirmed by the relevant leaders of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, they hoped that FFRC will continue to advance this work, and will vigorously promoted the work in the whole province after achieving actual effect.
On March 9, with the support of Researcher Fu Hongtuo, the Chief Scientist of the Academy of Fishery Sciences and the Chief Expert of Jiangsu Provincial Freshwater Shrimp System, the assistance and demonstration of the double-season river crab-freshwater shrimp aquaculture was first launched in Huashan Village, and the first batch of 500kg Taihu No.2 freshwater shrimp fry cultured by FFRC were sent to aquaculture pond in Huashan Village.
On March 11, 4th scientific research branch of FFRC went to river crab aquaculture pond in Huashan village. They provided the technical plan for river crab-crayfish aquaculture, and adjusted and optimized the culture density of river crab and the marketing time for different batches. At present, the first batch of 300 kg shrimp seedlings have been scientifically stocked on time, and the new Gaochun model of shrimp and crab green efficiency aquaculture technology demonstration has gradually moved into the green development.
